Loadin Up...

So  I'm back to doing some of my favorite things that I just never had the time or the resources to do while living up in Nashville.....buying, collecting and selling vintage goodies and hopefully pulling out the sewing machine again to make a few things here and there.

Just loaded up a few things into my Etsy shop today - some vintage buttons that are wonderful, and also a cute set of three vintage tea cup saucers.

LOTS of Vintage Goodies

So my sister Kathy (aka LaLa) and I tend to do weekly outings in search of vintage finds and we rarely come home without having found something good!

I now have in my Etsy shop, a lot of these vintage finds.

A few of the recently listed items:

Old U.S. Army copper buttons
A really cool tin from a candy shop in Chicago (1958)
Chilren's playing cards (1956)
Wool plaid blanket
Linens
Handbags
Cookbooks

Oh just so many things - hop over and take a peek :)

New Bear Listing on Etsy

I just finished another distressed bear, and got him listed on Etsy....
Measures approximately 17" - sits at approximately 11 1/2"

He's made from faux fur, which I've trimmed and distressed with coffee and cinnamon mixture.

He's stuffed with a mixture of sawdust and plastic pellets for weight, and wood excelsior, to give him the feel of an old bear.

Vintage wool taken from an old Army Hospital blanket, was used for his ears, and paw pads.

PRICE: $48.00 + $7.50 Shipping

Valentine's Day Bunny Now on Etsy

I just finished up another bunny...imagine that! lol
I love how she turned out too - she's made from a vintage red wool blanket and is string jointed. Her ears are wired with chenille stems, making them poseable.

Her dress is white cotton print with little red hearts, and I've added a piece of vintage red trim where the bodice meets the skirt.

Around her right wrist, she has a reproduction vintage Valentine.

It's Been a Very Good Day!

Well my day started off very early with a 5 a.m. wake up from my hubby - we had to go into his office and do a photo shoot for a local magazine. What girl likes to have her picture taken so early in the morning? Not this one, that's for sure...lol

I had a few minutes to spare before leaving for the office, so I checked my email, and lo and behold, there was an invoice order from Etsy - one of my customers bought two of the bunnies I listed yesterday! She lives in the United Kingdom, and although it costs a little bit more to ship there, I welcome any and all purchases. I gave her a discount because she purchased two items, and had to eat a little bit in the cost of shipping, but if it keeps one coming back to buy more, then I surely don't mind having to take a small hit on shipping costs.

After finishing up with that, I went by my sister LaLa's house and we took a "field trip" to JoAnn's Fabrics, to pick up some much needed supplies. While out, we just had to go to a couple of our favorite thrift stores. :) I found a cute blouse for 50 whole cents, and a wonderful grey wool blanket for 2 whole bucks! I used to have an identical blanket as this, and it turned out quite a few really great elephants, so I'm thinking I'm going to have to get off the bunny trail for a few days and cut myself an elephant. It's hard for me to have a new piece of fabric or wool laying around for a few days - I want to cut into it as soon as I bring it into the house.

When I got home, I checked my email, and there was one from one of my friends on Etsy, informing me that this lil bunny was featured on an Etsy Treasury. Well I wasn't even sure what that was, but here's the link - http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list.php?room_id=32086

I don't know who gets to go through all the items listed to make up a Treasury list, but I was honored to have this simple lil bunny make the cut!

So I'm on a Bunny Kick...

I just love this pattern that I've been making bunnies from this past week!
The finished bunny is just the right size, and is oh so easy to make and give personality to.

This newest lil girl is made from a vintage pink wool blanket, with her ears lined in a vintage ivory Army blanket.

She's wearing an empire waist dress made from a vintage piece of lace for the bodice, which is lined. The skirt of her dress is a vintage table linen with hand sewn fringe edging.

I love how simple, yet elegant she turned out - perfect for a Valentine's gift, a special something to stuff inside an Easter basket, a shelf sitter for a baby's nursery, or could even be used as a centerpiece for a baby or bridal shower.
She's listed on Etsy, and you can click on the link to the right to see more about her.

Thanks for looking! :)

Simple Times and Simple Joys

As I said in my post this morning about how I so enjoyed growing up in a time when things were more simple, I guess that kinda got stuck in my head, so today I just wanted to work on just some plain ole simple things.

I pulled out some nappy faux sheep's wool, some stained muslin, and some vintage feed sack, and finally found a use for these rusty old square nails! The farm animals are for sale on Etsy, and I put the simple doll on Ebay.

I'm thinking I need to find some kind of old spools or something similar in all my boxes of "stuff", and see if I can't come up with how to make some of these into pull toys.

Thanks for looking!
