Circumcision of the Heart

Good Morning!
Today's verses from the 4th chapter of Jeremiah are: 3 - 6. These verses speak of the prophecy of Babylon invading Judah, but as with all scripture, was put here for us to learn from, and also be able to apply it to our own lives. The Bible is clear when it says in Hebrews 4:12, "For the Word of God is alive and active; sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart".

Jeremiah 4: 3 - 6 : " This is what the Lord says to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem: 'Break up your unplowed grounds and do not sow among thorns. Circumsise yourselves to the Lord, circumsise your hearts, you men of Judah and people of Jerusalem, or my wrath will break out and burn like fire because of the evil you have done - burn with no one to quench it. Announce in Judah and proclaim in Jerusalem and say: "Sound the trumpet throughout the land! Cry aloud and say: "Gather together! Let us flee to the fortified cities! Raise the signal to go to Zion! Flee for safety without delay! For I am bringing disaster from the north, even terrible destruction".

The breaking up of the ground is in reference to our hearts - it's so easy for our hearts to become hard and calloused and jaded by all that we see and hear in our world. Hosea 10: 12 says, "Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord until he comes and showers righteousness on you".

The circumcision of our hearts means to seperate and purify our hearts from the sins of the flesh.

The sounding of the trumpet and the call to gather together is meant for us to be bold in our sharing the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus! It doesn't come natural or easy for most of us to have that boldness, but I'm telling you, that if you ask the Lord to give you an extra measure of boldness, he will! He will put you in the path of people who are hungry and searching for truth, and he will give you the words and heart to share with them, his words of hope.

The clock is ticking away for the return of Jesus....those of us who know him, eagerly await his shout for us to "Come on home"! Don't delay in making your decision to trust him as your Lord and Savior - today is the day - let him give you a new life and a hope for your future. There is no sin too big for him to forgive - He loves you and wants you to be His, and to share your life both now, and for all eternity.

Shalom,
Janelle
