The Power of God's Word

After taking a couple of days rest to enjoy some time with my hubby for Father's Day, I'm back to studying Hebrews. Today I'm focusing on Hebrews 4: 12 - 13.
"For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account".
In this passage, the writer is telling us that God's word has the power to reach to the inmost parts of one's personality and to judge the innermost thoughts - the soul and the spirit. They stand for the innermost facets of our immaterial nature, just as joints and marrow, the material aspect.
God knows each of our hearts, our thoughts, and our words, even before we speak them. He has given us his word to shed light on those sinful things which need to be taken to him in repentance to be forgiven, and to be washed clean from.
Sometimes we think that things we say or think about someone is our own little "secret", but here it says that there is NOTHING in all creation that is hidden from him. We need to confess and repent for those things which deceive us into that kind of thinking that "nobody will know".
When we get to Heaven and see Jesus face to face, we want to hear him say, "Well done, my good and faithful servant".
I know today I will be asking the Holy Spirit to shed light on those dark places in my heart that I need to ask forgiveness for - to change ME and my attitudes towards people and situations, and not the other way around.
Have a great week, and if you haven't asked the Lord to come into your life and wash you clean - to lead you in this life - make today the day that you choose to do that!
