Where Are Your Treasures?

Chapter 3 in Colossians starts by reaffirming our calling in Christ. I will focus on verses 1 - 2; The Certainties of Our Calling.
"Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things".
We all have times in our lives when the things of this world bombard our minds and take us off this path that the Lord has laid for us. He says for us to keep our hearts and minds focused on Him - not earthly things. Success, appearance, business, our homes - so many things that we seem to think are important are NOT.
Jesus said in Matthew 6:19, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also".
That's a strong statement from the Lord, and we should pay attention to the power of what He is saying.
It's not wrong to have a nice home or clothes, to have a successful business - but to make them the most important focus of our lives is. It's not money that the Lord said is evil, but the LOVE of it.
I think each of us need to examine our hearts today and see where our treasure is - are we focusing on the Lord, or are we allowing the things of this world to take our eyes of Him, and therefore making gods of these other things.
One of Satan's greatest tricks is to keep Christians "busy" - doing this or that for the church or other charities, and yes - all those things are good too, but if we stay so busy DOING things, then our time with the Lord is being robbed.
I know that Satan has tricked me into this mindset many times, and it's up to ME to tell him NO, and to immediately run to the Lord and put my eyes on Him.
May this last week of July 2008 bring you to the place of perfect peace in Christ Jesus.
